All was quiet on New Year's Day

In usual fashion we headed for the North Norfolk coast on New Year's day to dip our toes in the North Sea. Unfortunately so did a lot of other people, so the roads were a bit clogged, so we went 'off piste' and found a back way to a pub we've not visited for years (in fact not since the smoking ban). The Lifeboat in Thornham (http://www.maypolehotels.com/lifeboatinn/index.html), where despite the 'no bookings, free for all' we got a table straight away and had a great lunch.

Then off to the coast. Within a few years this might become a quick stroll :), but for now it was a considerable stroll past rushes

over sea defences

through dunes

to the beach

and finally the sea!

As you can see the day was near it's end

and it was sufficiently cold to maintain my anonymity with my Yukon special winter hat (which was actually too warm at times!)

We returned back to the pub just in time for darkness to fall, and set off home, refreshed, recharged, a tad cold, but content :)
